Plastic Recycling Facility

Bord na Móna AES partnered with a major international packaging and recycling company based in China, Sabrina Manufacturing Group (SMG). SMG installed the plant and currently operate it.  The ICAOI provided support to Sabrina in Ireland by advising them on the market, channelling communications and guiding stakeholders through cultural differences.

This successful project brought new technology into Ireland for the recycling of used plastic films that would either end up in landfill or would be shipped from Ireland to non-EU countries. The recycling process involves processing and cleaning the waste plastic material to produce plastic pellets. The pellets are reused in the manufacture of bags, wrapping, boxes, etc. The plant which is in operation since 2019 aims to recycle up to 24,000 tonnes of plastic film per annum which would otherwise end up in landfill.
